Former President US Barack Obama said Monday he is nearly finished writing his first post-presidency memoir.
Obama reportedly made the comment in passing at Bell MTS Place according to the Washington Examiner.
“I’m at the tail-end of writing my book now,” he says per the news outlet.
The former president also commented on how writing the memoir has given him a chance to reflect on his time in office. Obama did not divulge any more details on the book during his hour-long conversation at Bell MTS Place.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, signed multi-million dollar book deals to write their memoirs. Penguin Random House reportedly advanced N65m dollars to the couple, an unprecedented amount of money for a presidential memoir.
Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, was published in November 2018. Within weeks, more than 2 million copies were sold and topped the 2018 charts. The former first lady is still making stops in her wildly successful book tour, with a sold-out event in Houston this past weekend.
Not much has been reported on Barack Obama’s new book. Back in March 2017, Obama was reported to have travelled to a luxury resort in French Polynesia to work on his memoir.
Obama already has three books under his belt: Dreams from My Father from 1995, The Audacity of Hope from 2006, and children’s book Of Thee I Sing from 2010.
The Obamas also have a deal with Netflix that will let them produce different films and series for the video streaming service. To that end, they’ve launched a production outfit, called Higher Ground Production.
