Chief Ayano Tells Publishers To Turn Attention To Yoruba Writers.

At the second Anniversary of Yoruba Lakotun which is dedicated to the memories of Adebayo Faleti who died July this year and was Africa’s first newscaster, stage play director, film director and librarian. The event was hosted by Olutayo Irantiola (PR Specialist, Cultural Advocate, Book Reviewer, Creative Writer and Poet) at the Ethnic Heritage Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos and it is directed to celebrate the great feats of Yoruba writers.

The special guest Chief Gbemisoye Ayano however seized the opportunity to remind book publishers to take the Yoruba writers of our time seriously to encourage them. Though many publishers are of the idea that Yoruba literatures are not economically wise to invest in, the Chief debunked the belief stating that the books (Yoruba literature) was widely used in Nigeria for all levels of education.

He however also admonished writers in this genre to put the appropriate tonal marks known as ami ohun to stress the value of their literatures, he said in quote:

“I want to urge my fellow writers in the language to ensure that tonal marks are used in Yoruba literature. Once the tonal marks are missing, the meaning of the word might not be easily comprehended by the reader.”
