The 2017 BET Awards was held Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The Awards, which was established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network and recognises excellence in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment by African Americans and other minorities.
The 17th edition saw twenty-one awards being handed out as well as two honorary awards, Life Time Achievement Award for New Edition and A Humanitarian Award for Chance the Rapper. The glamourous event saw both some old-timers and first-timers taking statutes home.

The night’s biggest winner was new mum, Beyonce, who clinched five statutes including Album of the Year (Lemonade) and Best R&B/Pop Female Artist. Bruno Mars took home his first two BET Awards for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and best video (Bruno’s “24K Magic” tied with Beyoncé’s “Sorry”).
Other first-time winners of the night were Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles (Centric Award for “Cranes in the Sky”), Chance the Rapper (Best New Artist and Best Collaboration for “No Problem” featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz) and Migos (Best Group and also Best Collaboration for “Bad and Boujee” featuringLil Uzi Vert).
Nigerian’s own Wizkid took home the statue for Best International Act – Africa.
