The CAF Champions League final witnessed one of its greatest finals in history with Cairo arch-rivals Zamalek and Al Ahly going head-to-head at the Cairo International Stadium.
In what was an excellent spectacle of African football, especially in the first half, both sides offered a style of football that is both entertaining and thrilling, albeit behind closed doors.
Pitso Mosimane’a Al Ahly took the lead very early in the game from an Amr Al Sulaya header off a corner kick, but Zamalek continued to pile the pressure, and in the 30th minute, they got their reward when Shikabala’s world-class strike brought the game level as the game went into half time.
Energy levels dropped in the second half and the absence of key players out through covid-19 started to become visible, but it was Zamalek who came closest with an attempt at goal that struck the woodwork.
After a long night of football with nothing to separate the sides, the game seemed destined for extra time, but Ahly’s Afsha had other ideas.
He scored the game’s second and what eventually was the winning goal in the 86th minute to bring the game to a close as the men in red made history.
