Charly Boy set to release musical film “Odudubariba” based on his King of Boys character

Nigerian singer Charles Oputa, famous by his stage name, Charly Boy, is set to release his musical film “Odudubariba”.

According to his manager Doris Udensi, the movie is slated for release on Sunday, 20 September 2021.

Her statement reads: “His focus is to take a break from his street protest/peaceful demonstrations and put all that energy into conscious music like never before.

“This musical film drops on all TV, radio stations, and YouTube. It will also be available on all music platforms from 20 September.

“This film was directed by the legendary Akin Alabi, choreographed by the one and only Dr Kaffy, and costumes were designed by Modela.

“The single puts its spotlight on the position of Charlyboy as the king and pioneer of many positive changes that have taken place in the last 22 years in the entertainment space.

“Charlyboy, the Areafada, returns as a king into the country after three months abroad of rebooting and vacationing to release his highly anticipated Odudubariba musical film.

“The Areafada is one of the pioneers of the new wave music in Nigeria, and he is making his come back to the industry he helped to build.

“The king is back with a monster hit and ready to reclaim his spot.”

The singer made his debut in Nollywood when he featured in the Netflix original series King of Boys: The Return of the king, where he played the character of Odudubariba.

Speaking with The Sun, Charly Boy said of Odudubariba, his character in the series, means butterfly in Igbo and represents his spiritual essence.

He revealed that the first name Kemi Adetiba chose for his character didn’t fit his personality.

When Kemi Adetiba, the producer, contacted me for a role in the movie, I was not sure of the name I would adopt. I asked her what name would I be called in the movie, and she said ‘Mr. Gbadamosi’, but this didn’t go down well with me. I felt the name didn’t fit my personality; it’s too flat and ordinary,” Oputa revealed.

He then asked if he could come up with another name for the character, and Adetiba said, “yes”. He then came up with ‘Charly Boy’, but that didn’t fly with the producer as well. Later, he suggested ‘Odudubariba’, and it was accepted.
