Celebrities, including Iggy Azalea and Chrissy Teigen, spoke out against his actions. The hosts of the podcast also issued a statement following the heavy backlash and deleted T.I’s episode.
T.I’s daughter, Deyjah Harris, who he made the statements about, unfollowed her family on social media before eventually taking down her social media accounts.
Now, T.I and his wife Tiny have appeared on the Red Table Talk Show, which is hosted by Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother, and her daughter, Willow Smith.
During the show, which was posted on Monday, T.I defended his actions, saying:
“I came to clear up any misconceptions that have been surrounding how we interact and parent and what is appropriate and inappropriate, from a place of truth, I began to embellish and exaggerate and I think a lot of people took it extremely literal.”
He added that his daughter did not object to them, saying: “She did have a problem with me talking about it however, and I understand that, and I am incredibly apologetic to her for that. She understands my intentions and she knows who I am, who I’ve always been.”
On why he did not come forward sooner to address the backlash, he said his daughter told him not to.
“My daughter said just let it go, don’t say nothing, just let it go and I did until I had different directives,” he said.
“I am here to protect all of the children from themselves until they make it to a point where they have awareness, a sense of self and discernment to be able to make certain decisions on their own that will impact their lives indefinitely. I’m not there to protect necessarily virginity, I just know that is a big move.”
