Scam, Ponzi scheme, fake feminism: Why Glory Osei is trending on Twitter

If you’ve been on Twitter today, Monday 21 October 2019, you must have noticed that two of today’s Nigeria Twitter trends are Glory Osei and Muyiwa Folorunso.

And there was a reason for it! Although we cannot confirm most of the accusations.

Glory Osei has been accused of fraud, misrepresentation and maltreatment of staff by one of her former employees. She is also been said to be married to Muyiwa Folorunso despite the fact that she claims that women should shun relationships, in a manner of speaking. Weighty accusations that are miles away from the public persona presented by Glory Osei and to a large extent too by Muyiwa Folorunso

It all started after a Twitter user identifying as Ada (“TherealAda_), in a series of tweets accused Glory Osei and her husband, Muyiwa Folorunso, of fraud and maltreatment of staff. Ada claims to have worked in one of Glory’s companies, Divergent Enterprises in a withheld position. Divergent Enterprises are the owners of Landlagos – a real estate company, Pork Money, among other startups.  Ada claims that she didn’t know that Glory and her husband Muyiwa, were a husband duo and that she didn’t know them prior to being employed by their company.

Below is Ada’s first thread that started the snowball.

I started working with Divergent Enterprise in June 2019 (position withheld). I didn’t know much about the company and was just excited to work. I also didn’t know Glory and Muyiwa were married to each other. The most popular brand for Divergent is Landlagos.”

According to Ada, the couple’s businesses are fraudulent. She claims Muyiwa, through LandLagos, acquires land from the government but the land still belongs to the state government. She alleges that after selling the land to the unsuspecting public, the government took back and re-allocated the land, which means that the people who invested in those real estates have lost their money, which was pocketed by the owners of LandLagos.

Ada also accused the Glory Osei and Muyiwa of carrying out what is tantamount to a Ponzi scheme through their Pork Money business venture. In essence, she claims, Muyiwa pays earlier investors of Pork Money with money from subsequent investors. She likens the practice to the infamous MMM scam that many Nigerians fell victim of.

But that was not all, Ada also accuses Glory Osei’s company Hyper Factory of selling fake products at ridiculously high prices.

She didn’t end there. Ada also claims that the Divergent Enterprises workplace is toxic. She accuses the management of exercising punitive measures on staff for making mistakes and are very quick to fire their staff.

Ada also claims that on “Friday 27th September 2019, at exactly 4:45 pm. Muyiwa called COO and head HR to fire everyone at Hyberfactory, Landlagos and some other people. Myself inclusive. No reason, no payment in lieu, nothing. The Head HR had to stay back to make sure our salaries would be paid before she resigned.”

She continues: “Basically, Glory is a scam, she’s VERY married to Muyiwa Folorunso who is also a big a-s FRAUD. Divergent Enterprise should be investigated and shut down. This is the end of my thread. I will answer any questions you have. Thank you.”

Following the tweets, Nigerians have gone ballistic on Twitter, with some expressing astonishment at the weight of the accusations while many seem to agree with the accuser. But please, bear in mind that all these are just accusation. It’s not been proved.

Furthermore, what seems to astonish many Twitterers is the revelation that Glory Osei is married. And that’s because the entrepreneur passes herself as a man-hating feminist, people say. So, for these people, the hypocrisy is beyond unparalleled.
