Now, the cause of his death has been released. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the cause of his death to be oxycodone and codeine toxicity.
Juice WRLD, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, died at the hospital following a medical emergency at Chicago’s Midway International Airport where he landed on 8 December.
Juice WRLD is reported to have ingested large amounts of drugs in order to hide them from law enforcement officers.
On the day he died, Chicago police had been called in as a backup to assist federal authorities “in regards to a private jet arriving at the airport which contained a large amount of narcotics.”
The plane was found to contain 41 packs of Marijuana, six bottles of what was identified to be codeine, and three firearms, according to a police statement.
All occupants of the plane denied ownership of the drugs and the firearms found on the plane.
Juice WRLD, however, suffered a seizure after he reportedly ingested the drugs. He was administered Narcan, which is used to reverse the effects of a drug overdose, but he did not recover.
He died shortly after at a hospital.
