German wonderkid Kai Havertz is closing in on his purported move to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen after the clubs agreed on a package of €80m plus €20m in add-ons for the 21-year-old midfielder.
Talks between Chelsea and their Bundesliga counterparts have been on for several weeks over a deal for the Germany international. They have now concluded negotiations for the club-record £89m transfer on Wednesday, according to reports.
Havertz, though very keen to join Chelsea as soon as possible, has not yet had a medical and remains with the Germany squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures with Spain and Switzerland.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, who signed for £71.6m in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao, holds Chelsea’s previous club-record deal.
