United’s defender, Harry Maguire, scored deep into extra-time to send valiant 10-man Norwich out of the FA Cup. The goal, however, sends Manchester United into the semi-finals of the FA Cup as they look to equal Arsenal’s record in the competition.
The first goal of the game was scored by Odion Ighalo, who continued his good run in cup competitions with a flicked effort in the 51st minute.
The second goal was even better. Todd Cantwell, Norwich’s best player in attack at the Carrow Road, let fly from 25 yards out with a low swerving shot that beat the reach of United’s goalie, Sergio Romero.
And with neither side particularly impressive in attacking, although both goals in normal time were of high quality, Harry Maguire stole it at the last.
The England defender had a header brilliantly saved by Tim Krul moments earlier and reacted sharply to turn in the loose ball at the far post.
Norwich City was hard done when substitute Timm Klose got dismissed in the 89th minute as they were in the driving seat after equalising and looked favourites to snatch a late winner before the German was shown a straight red for pulling back Odion Ighalo.
They would now look to do the impossible in the premier league in a bid to beat the drop.
As for United, this was a patchy display but they still have the chance at silverware this season. They remain in contention in two cup competitions and for a top-four spot in the league.
