In March 2019, a petition was launched asking the Federal Government to implement a sex offenders registry for offences including paedophilia, sexual abuse and harassment, and rape.
Now, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has published a list of convicted sex offenders on Nigeria’s sex offenders register.
The DG of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli shared this announcement on Twitter. She shared a list on Twitter while saying that the agency is committed to naming and shaming sex offenders.
She also added that the agency will publish more names and pictures of offenders in the future. She wrote:
“Here are the identities of convicted sex offenders as seen on the Nigeria Sex Offender Register. @naptipnigeria Is determined to naming and shaming all sex offenders.
“More names will be published as the convictions keep coming”
