How BTS and its Army donated $2 million to the Black Lives Matter movement

For days since the death of George Floyd, peaceful protests have been ongoing all over America demanding justice for victims of police brutality and reiterating the fact that black lives matter.

In support of the movement, wildly popular boyband, BTS and their fans have donated two million dollars to the black lives matter (BLM) movement.

It all started when the group made a donation of one million dollars to the movement. Their music label, Big Hit Entertainment confirmed the donation to CNN.

Last week, they also tweeted support for the BLM movement writing, “We Stand against racial discrimination. We Condemn violence, You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together. #BlackLivesMatter.,”

After the details of the donation became public, BTS fan-based charity group, ‘One In An ARMY’ launched the #MatchAMillion campaign to match the donation made by the South Korean group.

Within the first 24 hours, the group had raised more than $817,000, according to the updates shared on One In An ARMY’s Twitter account.

Shortly after, they announced that they had reached their goal and the money would be donated to “Bailouts for those arrested for protesting police brutality,” “black-led advocacy organizations fighting against systemic injustice” and “support for the physical and mental health of the black community,” according to their statement.

This is a testament to the sheer power of the k-pop group and their fanbase who also used their influence to take over #WhiteOutWednesday, which was started in response to #BlackOutTuesday and #BlackLivesMatter.
