Simi, who recently welcomed the couple’s first child, Deja, shared an apology to the LGBTQ community on social media, months after making homophobic statements.
These statements were made during a session of her YouTube show, where she said: “They say they’re born that way, but I haven’t seen any biological proof.”
However, shortly after she made her apology, Adekunle Gold shared a feature of himself in a magazine that celebrates the creativity of LGBTQ people.
She was then accused of apologizing in order to “secure the bag” for herself and her husband, and not because she truly felt that she was in the wrong.
People also drew the attention of magazine’s editor to the situation, calling for Adekunle Gold’s feature to be taken down because his wife is homophobic and as such, his views don’t represent them.
It appears that the post was taken down because the link on Adekunle Gold’s latest Instagram post, which directed people to the feature was removed.
He has, however, taken to social media to defend her, saying that the timing of Simi’s apology was purely coincidental and that she had no idea about the interview.
He also extolled her virtues and asked people to consider her apology and give her a chance to grow. Read the statement below:
