There are many reasons Beyonce’s new song, Brown Skin Girl, featuring Wizkid, SAINt JHN and Blue Ivy has been trending on Twitter.
Of course, Nigerians, obviously, are beyond proud that Wizkid was on that collaboration.

But beyond that, the message contained in that song is one of liberation and of empowerment, especially for many impressionable young black girls who feel disadvantaged based on their skin colour.
Did we just say, young black girls? Void that!
We mean every woman of colour, of any age, and of any nationality, living anywhere on planet earth who feels insecure, self-conscious, timid, apprehensive, low-esteem, you never it, all those negative connotations because of some idiot’s definition of what should be considered beautiful. Brown Skin Girl has been born to set you loose from all those insecurities and negativities. It’s a call to take back control, which had been snatched from millions of women all over the world.
Are you ready to wield yours? Feel beautiful, confident and go rule your world because you can.
So, don’t let anyone tell you any different.
“Your skin is like pearl/The best thing in the world.” Yes, Beyonce says that. Believe it.
