On the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Ciara sat down with the Pinkett-Smith matriarchs to explain the emotions that led to her 2014 split with Future and how it helped her find the peace she feels today.
Ciara opens up on Future break up on Jada’s Red Table Talk
Although Ciara doesn’t mention the rapper by name, she recounts the moment she realised it was time for her to leave Future.
“I remember one time I was working out on the elliptical machine and I was just not sure about do I stay or what direction do I go? What’s the right thing to do? It’s easy to do this, but is the easy thing the right thing?” Ciara says.
She then explained how she took their son, Future, on several trips to solidify her confidence in walking away from the situation. This decision showed the singer that she had to commit to herself instead of to others.
“…And I think if you sit in situations that are unhealthy or you let them linger too long you start to lose yourself. I don’t like crying all the time. I don’t like being sad. So I’m like, ‘how do I get out of this? Because I like being happy.’”
In addition to her past relationship, Ciara also expressed gratitude to husband, Russell Wilson for accepting her for who she is and loving her the way she always wanted others to.
The couple got married in July 2016 and welcomed daughter, Sienna Princess, in April 2017.

“It was different,” she tells Smith of meeting Wilson. “I never had that feeling in my life. It was just like, it was calm … It’s a different level of love.”
Last month, Ciara released her seventh studio album, Beauty Marks. At the time she says of the titular video: “Sharing some of the most vulnerable and special moments of my life with you. This album, This song, This Video symbolises how we can turn our scars into Beauty Marks, and there’s no greater feeling than turning your tears of sorrow into tears of joy. #BeautyMarks”
