Early life and family

Ann Marie Serrano was born on December 18, 1960, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Dr Julio Robert Serrano and Dr Norda Rozan Serrano. Ann, her parents, her brother Robert Serrano, and her sister Norda Winkler lived in Connecticut, Ohio, and then Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Her father had a private practice as an occupational medical specialist and family physician. He was the official physician of the City of Fort Lauderdale’s employees and a consulting physician for various companies, including the aerospace program at Cape Canaveral. Ann’s mother was Cuban by birth. She moved to the US after graduating from the University of Havana School of Medicine. She was an anesthesiologist affiliated with hospitals in the cities the family lived in.

Ann’s sister, Norda Winkler, lived in Hong Kong for some time. She was a suspect in the hacking death of her Chinese husband in 1990 and was committed to a mental institution in the US in 2005.

Both Ann’s parents are no more. Dr Julio passed away in a tragic traffic accident in 1987, while Dr Norda passed away in 2010.

Ann started her career serving as the Chief Digital Officer at the Canadian Film Centre (CFC). In 1997, she launched the CFC Media Lab, an interactive storytelling institute, and thanks to her accomplishments, she has received numerous awards in the US and Canada. She also worked as a professor at OCAD University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was an Executive Member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

Allegedly George wasn’t an ideal husband or father, as he came home late every night and was often drunk. Ann eventually decided to kick him out of the house, but he promised to turn a new leaf. They reconciled and gave it another shot.

In April 2004, George’s health deteriorated severely, and he found himself in need of a kidney. Tests revealed Ann was a perfect match and could donate one of hers to him. They both underwent surgery on 19 April 2005, and the transplantation was successful.
