According to a statement from the network: “The pilot will take place thousands of years before the events of the current Game of Thrones series.
“The series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the east to the Starks of legend, it’s not the story we think we know.”
HBO executives say they will not broadcast the spinoff until after Game of Thrones’ final season in 2019. The story for the pilot was written by A Song of Ice and Fire mastermind, George R.R. Martin with Jane Goldman, writer of the Kingsman movies and the film adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
