In a recent chat with Vogue, Rihanna declares that while the world was watching and seemingly loving the moment, she actually felt quite the opposite.
“Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part, I don’t like too many compliments, I don’t like to be put on blast.”
Part of Rihanna’s discomfort at that moment, she said, was due to the fact that on one of the biggest stages in music – receiving one of the biggest music awards – she felt like the spotlight shifted from her to him.
“The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal.”
As for the status of their relationship now? Rihanna admits: “It is what it is.”
“We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either.”
