In the issue, Boyega, who was in the country for quite some time- exploring the city, attending interviews and parties, talks about his family, his career journey and his company, Upperoom Entertainment during an interview with the magazine.
The Pacific Rim actor also mentions his seemingly hazy and uncertain picture and how that didn’t deter him from seeing the greater picture. He talks about a cancelled show with HBO that could have broken him.
“I filmed a TV pilot for HBO that got cancelled. At first, I thought I was going to be in a good financial state and working as a result of that show, but the show got cancelled and I still kept going regardless because I believe in myself and I believe in what I want to accomplish.
“I made a few sacrifices along the way. So, what seems like overnight success didn’t exactly feel like that. But I’m glad to be here and I’m happy for the opportunity.”
The actor further explains his family has been supportive of his career despite having had fears and reservations.
“My first school performance ever, my dad was there. My dad has always been there to see,” he says.
He also discusses his company, Upperoom Entertainment which was launched in 2016. According to Guardian, Boyega was inspired to start a production company to create more opportunities for himself.
“I think my perspective and upbringing is unique, and that’s something I haven’t really seen being captured in film before. I wanted to be a part of [the] change in that perspective,” he explains.
