In the wake of the Spanish coach’s arrival at City, speculations had been going round in football arenas about the seeming sour relationship between Yaya Toure and Guardiola mainly because the manager had let the 34 year old leave Camp Nou back in 2010 when he was still at his prime. And after the coach had left him out of the squad, the rumors gained airs and it was helped by rash statements by the player’s agent Dimitri Seluk about the bad blood between the Ivorian and Guardiola.
But last season the coach played him and even used him as a key part of the team and in July when many old players were allowed to leave the Etihad when their contracts expired, Yaya Toure’s deal was renewed.
Now, he has not featured in a game of Manchester City but the coach has shown faith in his abilities and has challenged him to get back to better form and make the starting eleven.
“We need him” Guardiola had to the press talking about Toure.
“He’s part of the group, a guy who I admire” he added.
He insisted that he has no personal problems with Yaya Toure and with only Fernandinho and Fabian Delph on hand to handle the midfield; Guardiola would be keeping his fingers crossed waiting on Yaya Toure with Gundogan out due to an injury.
