Kechi was involved in the ill fated Sosoliso plane crash in 2005, she was 16 years old at the time. Of the 109 souls on board, she was just one of two people to survive the fateful flight. The teen, however, was significantly burned throughout her body, and was hospitalized for her serious injuries. Fortunately, she recovered and began a new life in Houston. Now her journey has taken her to the NBC talent competition.
For her “AGT” audition, Kechi wowed with Ed Sheen’s “Thinking Out Loud.” For her call-back during the second round, she was asked to share her story again. Kechi then chose to sing “A Song For You.” For her beautiful vocal, all of the judges gave a standing ovation, marking the only time the five panelists stood together during the two-hour broadcast.

Howie Mandel said afterward, “You feel really lucky at this point just to be here, and I think you got it wrong. We feel really lucky to have you here.”
Simon Cowell told her, “What I can say for sure is you deserved your place here tonight, not just on your story, but on your talent. That’s the truth tonight.”
And guest judge Seal said, “Strength through vulnerability. That’s a mantra I try to live every day. There’s no greater example of that than what you have shown.” “Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he sincerely told Kechi, prompting her to cry.
