The AMAA was the brainchild of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe. Its aim is to facilitate “The development and relevance of African film & cinema by providing a reward & recognition platform for filmmakers on the continent.” Winners of the awards are chosen by a jury, headed this year by Berni Goldblat, a Swiss filmmaker with knowledge of the Africa film industry. In 2008, he served as a jury at Imagé Santé International Film Festival in 2008.
