Nominees for the 2017 Africa Movie Academic Awards (AMAA)

 

The nominations list is out for the 13th edition of the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA). The announcement was made at the Kigali Convention Centre, Kigali, Rwanda on Sunday 14 May by the President of the AMA Award jury, Mr Bernie Goldblat.

 

The AMAAhas as its core objectives, the promotion of African actors, actresses, producers and their works internationally; the unification of Africa through acts and the production of world-class awards.

 

According to AMAA positioning statement, the Awards serve as a recognition of movie and acting excellence within Africa and its Diaspora.

There are 30 awards up for grabs for this year’s award. Vaya, a South African drama movie directed by Nigerian Akin Omotoso got the highest recognition with nominations in twelve categories.

 

 

Nollywood’s film ‘76 was nominated in eight categories, same as Uganda’s Queen of Katwe. 

Another Nollywood movie, 93, got nominated in seven categories, while Olobiri was nominated in four categories.
