The shortlist for the English Premier League Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) player of the year Award has been released Thursday 13. There are 24 nominees for the 4 categories of the Award to be held inLondon on 23rd April 2017. The Award recognises the best player of the year in the Award’s different categories. The winning players are decided by voting by the Association’s members. This year’s Award is the 44th edition since its inception during the 1973-74 season. Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez was the winner of the Men’s category during the 2016 edition of the Award.
For the men’s category, Chelsea’s duo of Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante leads the list. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotsppur), Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United), and Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) also made the shortlist.
Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku also made the shortlist for the Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year 2017. Others on the shortlist are Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Michael Keane (Burnley), Jordan Pickford (Sunderland) and Leroy Sané (Manchester City).
The Women’s PFA shortlist is dominated by Manchester City Women with three nominees including Lucy Bronze, Jane Ross, and Jill Scott. Other nominees are Karen Carney (Chelsea Ladies), Caroline Weir, and Ellen White (Birmingham City Ladies).
Nominees for the Women’s PFA Young Player 2017 include Chelsea Ladies’ Millie Bright, Birmingham City Ladies’ Jess Carter, Manchester City Women’s Nikita Parris, Georgia Stanway, Keira Walsh, and Liverpool Ladies’ Caroline Weir.
