Five times heavyweight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield, 54, is billed to battle former Lagos state governor, 65, in a boxing exhibition aptly titled “Rhumbles in Lagos’’, according to a statement released by the project manager of the charity event. The mock fight is being organised as part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Lagos State under the ongoing project Lagos@50, chaired by Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka. The fight which will be umpired by Wole Soyinka will take place on the 25th May 2017 at Eko Atlantic City and will be beamed live to a world audience. It is being organised to raise awareness to some health-related issues in Africa, with a special focus on “Autism in children, breast cancer, mental Illness, HIV/AIDS and river blindness”, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
It is expected that the event will bring over $2 million worth of medical supplies and relief materials. these will be donated to Lagos State Government, other neighbouring states and some not-for-profit organisations dedicated to fighting the aforementioned medical conditions.
Meanwhile, Tinubu has boasted that he can’t wait to knock Evander down as he, Tinubu, is the real champion of the world!’’ (Erm, we can’t wait to see you do just that sir! You might have missed a calling!)
Here is wishing the organisers and participants a successful event!
